Privacy Notice

renta bed runs renta-bed.com and decides how the information described here is used. For any privacy question or request, email support@renta-bed.com.

• When you join the waitlist: your email address, whether you joined as a renter or a Host, which page you joined from, and when.
• About the emails we send you: whether our thank-you email was delivered, which of our email lists you are on (renters, Hosts, everyone), and whether you have unsubscribed.
• If you already have an account: new sign-ups are closed until we open. If you made an account before that, we keep what you gave us: your name, email, phone number and profile, and any listings, applications, messages and payment records.
• When you use the website: your IP address and basic browser details. We use them to keep the site secure and to stop abuse, such as one person submitting the waitlist form again and again.

We do not ask for your NIN, BVN or any ID document on the website right now. Before we ever do, we will update this notice and ask for your agreement first.

• To keep you on the waitlist and tell you when we open — because you asked us to (your consent). Every email we send you has an unsubscribe link.
• To run an account you already have — because we need to, to provide the service you signed up for (contract).
• To keep renta bed secure and prevent fraud and abuse — our legitimate interest in a safe service.
• To follow the law — for example, if a court or regulator lawfully asks us for information (legal obligation).

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Only with the companies that run parts of renta bed for us, and only what each one needs:

• Supabase — stores our database and handles signing in.
• Vercel — runs the website.
• Resend — sends our emails and keeps our email lists.
• Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, or ask our help assistant a question (Google's AI writes the answer).
• Stripe and Didit — only for accounts made before sign-up closed, which may have used Stripe for payments and Didit for an ID check.

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm or fraud.

Our database and the companies above are based in the United States, so your information is stored and processed outside Nigeria. We only use providers that protect it with strong security and written agreements, and we do this as allowed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls so that people only see what they need, and password protection. No system is perfectly safe. If a serious breach affects you, we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the law requires.

• Waitlist details: until we open in your area, or until you ask us to remove them.
• Account details, listings and messages: while your account is open. When it is deleted, we delete or anonymise them, except what the law says we must keep.
• Payment records: for as long as the law requires (for example, for tax and accounting).
• Security records (such as IP addresses in our server logs): for a short time, unless we need them to look into abuse.

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to:

• show you the information we hold about you (access)
• fix information that is wrong (correct)
• delete your information, including taking you off the waitlist (delete)
• give you a copy of your information to take elsewhere (copy)
• stop using your information for a certain purpose (object)
• stop a use you agreed to, such as our launch emails (withdraw consent)

To stop our emails, use the unsubscribe link in any of them. For anything else, email support@renta-bed.com. We may ask you to prove who you are first.

If you are not happy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng.

We only use the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

renta bed is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

We will update this notice before renta bed opens in Nigeria. When we make important changes, we will post them here and change the "Last updated" date.
